The Copán site is so well-preserved due partially to the fact that the jungle has been allowed to grow naturally over the ruins for centuries. Tree roots such as seen above (yes, the huge horizontal things are Saba roots), envelop the stone structures and hold the protective soil in place. Here you can see a ruin(s) under this large mound of dirt.
