. . . This is a full sized replica of ROSALILA TEMPLE (in the onsite Museum of Sculpture) as it would have appeared in Mayan times. It was found in almost perfect condition in 1989 by means of a tunnel dug under the Acropolis structure. It is considered by many scholars to be the best-preserved stucco edifice in the Mayan world. It was dedicated in AD 571 by King Moon Jaguar, the 10th ruler, who was apparently so revered that when the Acropolis was built over it, the temple was left completely intact. The original Rosalila Temple is still in the core of the Acropolis today. The original carvings, especially the Sun God mask over the door, are remarkably crisp and vivid. . . .
