. . . These are the stairs at Temple IV, accommodating 2-way traffic flow when necessary. Most pyramids have wooden stairs, in generally good condition, which made the climb much easier and safer. A series of landings staged between the steep stairway segments provided a psychological safety net should one take a tumble downward. It's hard to see here, but the stairs go way up and turn to the right before reaching the top of the pyramid.
