We're now in the large complex called LOST WORLD (El Mundo Perdido) with 38 structures and a huge pyramid, minus a temple, in the center. Tunnels dug into the pyramid have revealed 4 similar pyramids beneath this visible outer one, the earliest dating from 700 BC, making this pyramid the oldest Mayan structure at Tikal. This pyramid measures 104 ft. high (10-story building) with a base of 260 ft. This one you have to climb the old fashion way. The stone steps are high and wide by our standards, and the Maya were short in stature, so it makes you wonder how they managed trips up and down these steps, especially when hauling building materials such as stone blocks and mortar. Look closely and you'll see climbers ascending and resting at the top . . .
